Want to stop smoking, start exercising, lose weight, improve your diet, or reduce your alcohol use? We’re much more successful in developing and maintaining healthy habits if our partner does the same. Scientists at University College London studied over 3700 couples married or living together, and found that if you want to improve your habits, get your partner to do the same. 50% of women who smoked were able to give up cigarettes if their partner also quit at the same time, compared to only 8% when their partner was a smoker who kept on smoking. Men are just as likely as women to change to healthier habits when their partner does the same. Want to get healthier and live longer? Get your partner to make the changes with you!
