Young newlyweds who are satisfied with their marriage gain weight in their early years together, putting them at increased risk for various health problems related to being overweight in the long term. That’s the finding of a study on marital satisfaction and weight gain at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, and a reminder to couples that healthy eating and exercise, whether together or separately, is an important part of a healthy life. And you can’t start healthy patterns too soon. Once you gain weight it’s very hard to get it off and keep it off. If you don’t gain the weight in the beginning, you won’t have the ongoing battle to lose it later on. Be a healthy support system for each other, encouraging each other’s good health habits — keep the soda and junk food out of the house and out of your life as much as you can. Your future self will thank you for it.
